Day Eighteen #NaPoWriMo 2016

Stiletto Widow
No misshapen joint at the base of Big Toe;
no formal balls to attend in these potential maimers.

You can attend barefoot
(but only if)
your dress is pressed;
the frock must wow
thus they’ll never look down
nor beyond,
whether ruffles in lace
or hiccuping thigh slits and scoop backs.
Oh, don’t forget your mask.
No need for petticoats or girdles;
underneath won’t be seen,
quick gaze like the lightest breeze.
One last big effort, push instead of pull.
One more before you can sing solemn hymns;
ashes to ashes to this carnival
and the vanity within.
