Day Thirty #NaPoWriMo 2016

Much Rather
Wearing an orange hat
          dunce
Overhauling inside and out
          plastic bag
Making a fist
          sweaty palms
Timely arrival at door
          half dressed, van off
Celebrating Merits
          surprise wailing
To own a helium head
          heavy metals
On a beach, somewhere, mostwheres
          microwave wheat bag
Spa massages and all you can eat
          sticky physio
A day not brought to me by the letter F
          name and nature

Day Twenty-Nine #NaPoWriMo 2016

Limpet
When was the last time I missed a deadline?
Mortified, terrified, make the panic mine;
been a while since the time I lived on air and moths,
now every day pushes under. Chlorophorm on cloth.
I knew all my rules, capitals and ancient civilisations;
now, I barely recognise myself in this nation;
no vision, no knowledge, just a shepherd’s flock,
bad supposition, miss the mark of a crusty sock.
Should I fly, jump, or sing like a bird?
Whatever saves me from this compulsory herd.
When will I know if I’ll I run, hide or fail?
Will you swap your siren song for my beached whale?

Day Twenty-Eight #NaPoWriMo 2016

The Obvious Choices
unseasonal weather
   coloured in
   mournful
unwelcome sebacious troll
   agonising duration
   impertinent
longwinded chase of ghostly gaggles
   lettuce to a second hand wedge
   twice fried lard of the plump
recipes to feed <2 or >5
   boiling point (now-2)
   tepid (avoid)
noise pollution
   (shush)
tool box
   hammer to the head
   Incan triangle

Day Twenty-Seven #NaPoWriMo 2016

Paperwork
Mechanical idiot to blagger in three hours flat;
dragging scheduled for the next:
(unspecified time, to the nearest unit, TBC);
sourcer of the obcurest desires,
negotiator to the stars and the struck alike,
practitioner of malleable codes of practice;
must confess, three strengths
plus a turnaround weakness.
How much to give away advantage?
Get them to mirror laugh,
not feeling the pull of the string;
ready to eat from the palm of a dirty hand.
Paid silence or admission of guilt.

Day Twenty-Six #NaPoWriMo 2016

Now or Later
My darling, you ask the silliest questions:
ecstatic that you chased the strays away;
terrified of their return; not an if but a when,
arriving out of nowhere. The naked jungle
metamorphoses within the confines of my skull;
I fear the lull more than the beast or its hum.
Zonules turned to the vastest flatland;
opened, forced ajar, game of catch up passes
lavish invoices that can’t wait til later.

Day Twenty-Five #NaPoWriMo 2016

Professional Despot
transformation of your world
not the steps to heaven or hell
nor the road to perdition or elusive salvation
at odds with what was allegedly confessed
disregarding what’s compulsory, necessary
rope burn and tippy toes
it happened before
not quite like this, but close enough
fuzzy details, wiry words turning mushy
who is the magician?
who is the canary in the cage?
the show is just one long trick
not everyone can see the seams
with such poor direction, disastrous construction
it never stood a chance
the men who turned into machines
rather be soul fools
than numb flesh
What will you unfix, witch?
What did you undo?
Was it always sabotage or did someone
mean well, first milestone just a dot
in the distance

Day Twenty-Four #NaPoWriMo 2016

Seduction of a Disco Diva Doer
Hey, hey, I saw you looking over here;
gonna ask the DJ to play my song
and I’ll get near, shuffling closer to you.
Lucky me, I won the lottery, I must be in heaven
because you want my number and I want yours.
You gonna press your digits and leave a mark;
sweaty buttons, bump and grind til I’m sore.
Turn me on, say no more;
turn me off when you’re done.
You twirled your charms into my arms:
danced for your life and owned the floor.
I yield, creature of magic tales.
Under your spell, wicked witch of the west
side of a neon bright city, never scared;
own what you want, spit out what you don’t.
Dark alleys for playground; turf wars caroussel.
You laugh at everything and cry for nothing;
please don’t take your secret to the grave.
