NaPoWriMo 2018- Day Twenty

Title: Lipstruck

as thick as crayon feels the line
from commissure to commissure
half a heart in wax and crimson
end to end, no breaks
a nervous glide, bold, crude
instead of gentle feathering
and soft strokes

ripe berries
melting into vermillion
into itself
esoteric scrawling
clashing with
a scarlet face

boiled cherry sweet
dissolving at first heat
baring edges and grit
displaying a renewed guise
for a few minutes
an altered state of flush
departing in a wipe

NaPoWriMo 2018 – Day Four

Title: Calendar

It is helpful to compare notes;
I show you mine without delay,
you hand yours over, for me to file.

I track, add impressions;
I analyse, reconciling outcomes;
I chop and choose,
selecting exclusively the data
I know will deliver fundamental conclusions.

It is practical to swap stories
about past performance and present perturbation.
With this information, freedom reigns.

NaPoWriMo 2018 – Day One

Title: Surge and Swell

I walk the outer bands,
after criss-crossing the boardwalk;
I approach nervously,
anticipating for days
but frozen solid when the moment comes
and it’s time to burst.

I babble the talk, speculating wildly,
ticking off all the ways to map success.
On the approach, tip-toeing turns into
a careless jaunt, a startled shuffle;
no need to fear free falling:
in pure suspension I herd laconic realisations
of what I know can be.

In the eye of the storm, I learn to fly.

Intro, NaPoWriMo/GloPoWriMo 2018

NaPoWriMO / GloPoWriMo 2018

Thank you followers old and new for joining me in 2018’s National and Global Poetry Month 🙂

To learn more about this poetry challenge visit:

I have participated in this challenge in 2016 and 2017. Each one was a different journey, different landscape and emotions. It is exciting to have a deadline (a bit of pressure never hurt). It is also important to remember that (to me) this is a game of exploration and learning: a time to experiment with styles.

Feel free to link to your own work on the comments in this post if you would like to share your words with me. 🙂

I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

Spring love to you.

Creatively yours,

NaPoWriMo/ GloPoWriMo 2017 Day Thirty (plus epilogue)

(I end this challenge late but on what I feel is a playful high. Events and challenges welcome us to step out of comfort zones and to have fun our precious words. Safe and samey? Oh no!

To those to have read my 2017 contribution to April Poetry Challenge Month: thank you! x)

NaPoWriMo/ GloPoWriMo 2017 Day Twenty-Nine

Not a cell, not a cage:
still a jail.
No bars nor fences:
consistent and confident obstacle.
What’s more vital, imagination or will?
Strength and power from pith into pieces.
You are what you eat, forced to absorb
miracle decoctions drop by drop.
Whether strong current or stream,
small catch in a big box, bait and net.

NaPoWriMo/ GloPoWriMo 2017 Day Twenty-Five (and a Tiny Note)

(a rare rhyming event, however, if this is a challenge, I must step out of my free verse comfort zone)

I don’t ask why anymore
I don’t believe whispered lore

I trust my gut instead of head-lines
watch the ground, avoid sour mines

I see the puppeteer and the wires
if only there was money in cease-fires

The make belief has taken over
I don’t want to watch over my shoulder

Truth and lies mixed in together
stiff as a board, light as a feather
